Last week, I (Gemma) embarked on a week-long Scotland road trip following the popular “classic” route and shared it on the Hiya Scotland Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok channels.
Scotland Road Trip Route
Here’s a quick summary of the Scotland itinerary and links to further reading.
Day 1: Glencoe to Mallaig
Day 2: Mallaig to the Isle of Skye via ferry
Day 3: Isle of Skye
Day 5: Inverness to the Cairngorms, Perthshire, St Andrews and Cellardkye (Fife)
Day 6: Fife to Edinburgh
Day 7: Edinburgh - See my website, Everything Edinburgh, for heaps of tips
Peaks and Troughs / Highs and Lows
The highlights include seeing the Northern Lights for the first time while staying on Skye (pictures), the Culloden guided tour, and the whisky-tasting event in Edinburgh—although I’m still not a fan of the latter.
Every trip comes with challenges! Mine were being hit by a car while parked (no injuries), and in St Andrews, something stole my Janetta’s ice cream… so good even the seagulls want it!
Scotland Packing List
The most used items from my packing list were my yoga/gym pants, which I lived in, and my raincoat, which I needed in Edinburgh, although I did have sunshine for most of the road trip!
You can read my detailed Scotland packing list here.
